Today, I found myself in Scarborough attending a double-header soccer game for Jack(10). Frankie (7) and I brought along the hurleys in case he got bored, and soon found ourselves "pucking around" on the adjacent field. At one point, a group of U14 players walked by and asked "What kind of stick is that?" B-I-N-G-O! The future starts 1 interested player at a time.
Let me be clear...I am NOT trying to promote the game instead of rooting for Jack. Kids are throwing around the football, playing kickball, and trying to keep interested by any means possible. If I can enjoy cheering for the Strikers U11 soccer stars AND pique some curiosity, well OK.
I got at least 3 parents and 4 kids asking what the heck that axe-shaped stick was, and that's how it begins. By the way, Jack played great...kept the action in front of him, made good passes, and showed excellent ball-handling skills in the 2 matches.
Slainte!
